 Freddie,

 i really think we need this, because while the FORTRAN prints an error to
 the matlab screen the scripting will continue calling fortran with
 unfilled structures as it doesn't know there is a problem, and die
 horribly not giving an idea of what went wrong, inexplicably crashing the
 whole of matlab....
