Comment (by Freddie Akeroyd):

 Either cell arrays of strings or two dimensional character arrays can now
 be passed to fortran and will get copied correctly into an allocatable
 array of strings. There is also now an IXTstring_list class, but i'm not
 sure we need to use it now ... to be discussed.
